How to block fraud credit / debit cards? [on hold]

I’m having a real concern for blocking/disallowing the usage of fraudulent transactions in our platform.

Some customers use some kind of fraud or stolen card (US cards) to make payments on our platform and they keep doing it on a daily basis. It is not one or two cards. It is many (more than 50 a day).

We are not a payment company, so we don’t have a license to store the card details in a database and block the card if the same card appears again.

The weird thing is these customers are able to pass 3D secure page protected by the bank website, which asks for real user’s OTP for that transaction.

Though I’m blocking customer’s accounts and their Android device IDs if they are a suspicious user.

Is there any way I can reduce or stop these frauds?

What’s the probability of 2 credit card numbers matching, given incomplete data and known expiry date?

Trying to settle an office argument on a challenging probability scenario, thought I’d see if anyone would like to take a stab:

We’re trying to determine the probability of 2 credit cards matching amongst a global population given that only the first six and last four digits are known. We also know the expiry date. A couple of rules for each field:

First six:
We’re working strictly with a single card issuer who’s range of first six digits is between 222100-272099 or 510000-559999. For simplicity this allows for 100,000 possible combinations.

Last four:
These for simplicity can be assumed to be completely random. (ignoring Luhn checks)

Expiry date:
Only valid future dates within a four year time frame.

What’s the probability of 2 cards in the entire population being the same?


So far our best theory by breaking this down into parts is:

  1. A = There are 100,000 combinations of the first 6 digits.

  2. B = There are 10,000 combinations of the last 4 digits

  3. C = There are 48 combinations of the date field.

We are looking for the number of clashes in the population. For simplicity we’ve assumed a population of 1 billion. So we are assuming ultimately that there will be 1 billion events and are looking for the probability of getting 2 identical outcomes from those events:

A * B * C = 1,000,000,000x
1/100,000 * 1/10,000 * 1/48 = 1,000,000,000x
x = 1/48

So the theory is that there is a 1/48 chance of there being a single clash in 1bn cards.

How can I run a credit quality breakdown of mutual funds that don’t publish one?

I’m interested in using some mutual funds (specifically the Ivascyn-managed PIMCO Income Fund [PIMIX] and some other PIMCO funds) that don’t publish a credit quality breakdown. This makes it impossible to run a credit quality analysis of a portfolio containing these funds, except on a worst-case basis (e.g., PIMIX is allowed to hold up to 50% junk, so I mark it as 50% junk and 50% BBB).

How can I process a fund’s disclosure of holdings into a credit quality breakdown myself?

  1. find the factorial of 25 (25!)
    by using a single line and you can’t use math.factorial.
    I really don’t know how to do this without the math function.

  2. Sum the squares of integers from 1 to 10. Again, try and do this in 1 line.

  3. Estimate the fundamental math constant e via the following formula
    e=1+11!+12!+…+

you are expected to use the vectorization of math.factorial for this question.

How to build up credit fast?

I live in the United States, am around 22 years of age, and recently graduated college with around $12,000 in student loans. I have had a full time job for around 4 months that pays around $55,000 a year and I live my parents so my living expenses are low.

My car is starting to become unreliable with it just passing 200k miles on it.

I’m looking to buy a car around $20,000 – $25,000. My credit score is a little below average (I think around 670), and I have very little credit history. Never had a credit card, or any bills to pay.

I’m starting to apply for car loans, but I’m noticing that I keep getting rejected for a loan of $15,000 because I have no credit history.

How do I improve my credit fast so I can get approved for a car loan and not deal with the headache of an unreliable car?

The only way I can think of is it start paying my student loans now even though I am still in grace period, but will paying them in the grace period improve my credit score since they are not technically due yet?

Should I open a line of credit?

It’s currently the end of October and I would like to get that car around late December.

Extract text using Google Vision Api combined with Credit Card Scanner?

I am trying to understand how text recognition works in Android, so I decided to create an app that can scan credit card and extract info (card number and expiry date).

I found this open source: https://github.com/faceterteam/PayCards_Android and I hoped that it would work properly.

It turns out that this can capture and extract numbers well IF the numbers aren’t printed flat on the card.

Now, I know that the Google Vision Api makes it possible for me to make my phone recognize printed numbers on cards, but not embossed numbers.

So I would love to combine these two. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to, yet.

I found out that the Google Vision Api can recognize numbers from bitmap. But the point is, I am not familiar to how cameras work in Android.

My plan is to use the PayCards for Android, and while it continuously tries to detect embossed numbers, frame by frame, use Google Vision on these frames to check if there are printed numbers instead of embossed numbers.

Is there a way to get a bitmap image out of a camera preview for me to use Google Vision on? I just don’t know where to put my Google Vision codes.

‘Refund Online’ missing on Credit Memos for Paypal Express Checkout

I’m trying to refund an order that was made from through PayPal Express but whilst on the ‘Credit Memo‘ page the only available option is ‘Refund Offline’. This means the refund is only logged on the Magento and not refunded from PayPal.

Are there some settings that need to be in place for this to work? I wasn’t able to find any on the Magento 2.1 documentation.
