What are the advantages of cycling gloves?

So cycling gloves? I don’t perceive how this can change my experience of riding bikes.

Somebody please clarify what benefits I get from them. Possibly I would get a few if the advantages are sufficient.

Cycling burning fat or calories?

If I have breakfast and then cycle, say for about an hour at about 80%, will the cycling burn any fat(/muscle) tissue or just calories? If not, would it be advisable to consume no or very little breakfast before the cycling?

Would it therefore be possible to reduce body fat while being in an overall daily calorie surplus?

FYI: I’m rather lean already, 1.88m @ 81kg, training for strength & hypertrophy while hoping to minimize that stubborn little layer of belly fat.

Could I use the Ogio Mach 5 bag for cycling?

I commute to work by bicycle and had a recent incident that involved Supermanning over the bonnet of a car and landing on the tarmac. I’m a software developer and carry a high-end laptop with me which was damaged in the fall. A motorcyclist friend recommended the Ogio Mach 5 which is designed for motorcycle riders and has a hard shell. I’m thinking of using this for cycling.

Has anyone here had experience of this bag? Do you think it would suite cycling?
Otherwise, any other hardshell bags out there that would carry a 17.3 inch laptop and suitable for cycling?

My thinking is that MTB riding position is similar to some motorbikers so it could work well.

Statistical method to show a cycling pattern

let’s say I have multiple time-series $A_i(x)$ and $B_i(x)$. Here, $i$ stands for a person (person 1, person 2, person 3, …, person $i$, ..). Is there a method to show that the fluctuations in $A$ is caused by the fluctuation in $B$? Note that both time-series $A(x)$ and $B(x)$ are periodic, and not necessarily in a synchronous pattern (ie, $A$ might go up, while $B$ is going down). I’m interested if they are moving in the same or in the opposite direction. I know we could use a simple correlation here (to see if they move in the same direction, but not if they are out of sync?).

Thanks,

Expected time in cycling race

I am about to participate in my first cycling race. The organizers ask me about my expected average speed, presumably for creating suitable groups of comparable speed.

I just started cycling on a racing bike a few weeks ago. I average about 30 km/h on trips of ~80km, riding alone. The race will be 65km, with a similar profile to my own trips.

My question: What speed should I expect to achieve in the race? I presume it will be faster than 30km/h due to slipstream, but by how much? The race has a few thousand participants, so there should always be someone to “hide behind”.

Sample Metaphor for Cycling

Can you please give me a sample metaphor for cycling, specially when pedalling uphill and sweating.

Also, I’d like an example of a metaphor to describe the opposite situation: riding downhill, with the wind is blowing into the driver’s face and the speed is increasing.

I’m composing a speech project with a requirements of using metaphors.

Edit: I want to have a metaphor for an uphill ride and a downhill ride experience.

Thank you
