How to tell which iPhone app eats bandwidth?

Sometimes I notice that the Internet connection in my house becomes REALLY slow.

Disabling WiFi on my wife’s iPhone fixes this.

But how can I tell which app/process does this?

iCloud backup is disabled. Dropbox is not installed. The “data usage” report shows cellular data, not wifi, I assume. What do I do? How do I debug this?

Why does my iPhone 7s keep losing Wi-Fi since I installed iOS12?

I can connect the phone to Wi-FI manually, but after several minutes, it loses the connection, and I have to restore it manually. This did not happen before I installed iOS 12.

iPhone 6s noticeably slower (geekbench)

I have got an iPhone 6S on October of 2015.

Sometime in 2016, I downloaded Geekbench 3, to benchmark the device.

My baseline results are: (5 runs)

Single: ~2500 (2450-2550)
Multi: ~4400

Now, I feel like my iPhone is becoming slower, so I did the benchmark again. (11 months later)

My new results are: (5 runs)

Single: ~1500 (1200-1800)
Multi: ~2100

And it seems that it is somewhat dependent on the battery percentage (low battery => low result. but even 100% battery is ~1700)

enter image description here

I understand these are synthetic benchmarks, and are not fully representing the device’s performance, but it seems odd, and I want to know if my device is defective? Do I have a case for a phone replacement? Or, am I reading too much into it, and devices just decay over time?

Note: I’m not sure if this is relevant, but my device is part of the apple recall for battery replacement, but because the apple re-seller in my country does not supply phone replacement, I did not change it.

iPhone -> Adafruit -> Raspberry (MQTT)

First of all I’m a complete newbie to Pi as well as programming, so please bear with me.

Over the past few days I’ve been wanting to trigger Python scripts to run on my Pi from a button press on my iPhone. I am pleased to say that I have got this up and running using the following method:

IFTTT Button (iPhone) -> Adafruit Feed -> Adafruit Feed watched by Python script -> Python script executed if correct parameter received

This works like a charm and so I added the following for Siri integration / triggering:

Apple Shortcuts / Siri -> IFTTT Webhook -> Adafruit…. and the same as above from here onwards.

So my question at the end of all this is, is this process ok? As in are there better ways that I can be doing this / or any security or other concerns with my current process? Like I said, the above methods work really well for me and are nice and easy to setup and manage with my limited knowledge – but I’d like to know if there are any issues with my current approach.

Thanks!

How to sync contacts between MacBook and iPhone without iCloud

My iPhone and iPad are failing to sync to the Contacts on my Macbook pro.
iTunes shows a menu to allow syncing, but no information is exchanged.

I’m not using iCloud for my contacts on my iPhone or MacBook Pro but I do want to sync them between both devices. All devices are updated to the latest supported versions of iOS and MacOS as of June 26th, 2018.

This is not my question:
Is there an alternative to using iCloud for managing contacts?

I have been using iTunes without iCloud for years to sync my phone and the contact list on my computer.

I now believe the problem is between iTunes and the Contacts application on the Macbook Pro.
– Changes to groups (add, delete, rename) are not reflected in the iTunes menu for syncing contacts.
– Changes to contacts made on my computer do NOT propagate to either my iPad or iPhone.
– Changes to contacts made on either my iPad or iPhone propagate to the other device when both have been synced.
– Changes to contacts made on either my iPad or iPhone do NOT propagate to the Macbook Pro.
