No sound on laptop speakers on an Acer Aspire 6920

Computer: Acer Aspire 6920

Card: HDA Intel

Chip: Realtek ALC889

My problem is that the laptop build-in speakers don’t play any sound. When i plug in my headphones the sound works normally, the same goes with external speakers. Those work normally like the headphones.

The profile in the Sound settings is Analog two-way Stereo.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04.

Might trere be any problem with my sound drivers or something similar?

Any form of help appreciated.

Achieving Max Possible Resolution with remote desktop 2015 iMac to Windows 10 Laptop

Can someone please provide some assistance on what the best and/or cheapest solution is to the following:

I have a late 2015 27 inch iMac (retina 5k) in my home office. By far the best thing about it is the screen. My new (work from home) job has supplied me with a Dell XPS 15 9570 (windows 10) laptop to use.

I want to be able to use my beautiful (and expensive!) 5k imac as an external display for the work laptop. I have read that sadly my iMac was the first generation to drop support for “target display mode” so simply hooking the two together is not possible (*shakes fist in Apple’s direction).

So from what I’ve read the only reasonable option is remote desktop from one machine to the other. What I can’t find info on is the best way to connect the two and the lack of common ports on each device is muddying the waters further.

iMac has Thunderbolt 2, USB 3 and an ethernet ports.

Dell has Thunderbolt 3, USB 3 and HDMI ports.

Both have Wifi connections as well.

What’s my best route here and what cables/adapters do I need?

Different battery duration for Windows 10 and Ubuntu on the same laptop

My Lenovo Legion Y520 laptop came with Windows 10, and I added Ubuntu 18.04 as dual boot around 2 months ago.

Based on my observations, I only get around 2 hours max usage in Ubuntu while I can get 3-4 hours of usage in Windows.

In both cases, I only do some basic stuff; checking emails, watching Youtube, doing some research, watching TV series, etc. I also do some coding (I’m currently making a nodejs project) in both of the OS’s. I also observed that my laptop gets hotter when I’m using Ubuntu than when I’m using Windows.

What could be the reason for this?

Can I do anything to improve my laptop’s battery life and temperature while I’m using Ubuntu?

Access private blockchain from another PC/Laptop?

I have private block chain on my PC.The private blockchain is configured and deployed using geth. I want to connect to that blockchain from another node(my laptop) to access the smart contract deployed. For that what should I have to do?

Is this possible via Metamask( connect to custom RPC)?or geth is mandatory? If I use geth, How can I download the genesis block to my laptop and become a node in the private network?

What laptop should I buy? (Web Developer, Linux)

I am a developer, I mostly develop web applications (Fullstack JavaScript) and Websites (Mainly WordPress). And use tools like Git, Vagrant (And other kinds of virtualizations), Photoshop, Browser open with lots of tabs. Most often lightweight IDEs like Atom but it happens that I use more heavy IDEs like Webstorm.

I am now looking after a new laptop too buy. I dont want a MacBook and I have been thinking about some of the Laptops from Lenovos Yoga (2016) Series. But I am not enirly sure about this, mainly because I will dual-boot Windows with Ubuntu (Linux) and I will probably spend more time in Ubuntu then Windows. So a computer that has touch screen does not feel that optimal.

So I would like some recommendations/advices on Laptop that are good for my purpose. I am looking for something around the 800-1400USD price range with SSD and good amount of RAM and a 14″ screen. But most importantly I want something that “just works” in other words I want a Laptop that I can be happy with and that does not come with 102 different bugs and issues.

Recovery key set by my “company, school, or institution” on private laptop

I want to enable FileVault encryption but in the dialog I encounter this message:

A recovery key has been set by your company, school, or institution.

I don’t have my laptop set up by a company, school or institution because this is my private laptop.

This dialog may be related to some profile-files I have recently installed for university in order to get the VPN to work. How can I reset this so that I can use my own recovery key?

I am using macOS 10.13.

Could not boot up the laptop until BIOS is reset

I meet a strange problem recently which did not happen before. My acer E5-471g laptop could not boot up though the battery is full. I press the boot up button and nothing happens. And I unplug the battery and reset the BIOS. The laptop could boot up again! I am very confused. The default BIOS is UEFI, my laptop is legacy. My OS is Win7 64bits.

I think the problem is related to software. But I did not install strange apps recently. Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance!
