Can you start a wood fire with a Spark Bunsen Burner/Laboratory Lighter?

Someone suggested using a Safety Spark Bunsen Burner/Laboratory Lighter with 5 Flints to start tinder for an emergency fire. I don’t currently own one so can’t try it. I have used them to light flammable gases and they are great for that. Logistically I am not sure they would work well to light tinder to start a wood fire.

Can anyone see a way to make it work?

Is it possible to charge car battery through cigar lighter socket?

I plan to modify my SUV into a camping car. Can I charge my car battery through cigar lighter socket with a 13.6 voltage when my engine is off? Also, can I power the air conditioning compressor and dashboard of my car through the same socket, and when my engine is also off? I plan to set up an AC to DC converter to do that. Is it electrically dangerous?

Thank you.

Why doesn’t a lighter flame cast a shadow?

Light has always been a mystery for me. When we do a simple experiment of holding a lighter in one hand and a light source behind it, it shows no shadow on the wall at all. Why is this happening? Is it because the flame is pure energy and doesn’t have matter in it, or is it due to light passing through the flame and not getting reflected? If it is, why isn’t the light getting reflected or retracted?

Does the presence of a flame affect the flow rate of gas out of a lighter or torch?

If I were to set a propane torch’s valve to a fixed open position, would it run out of gas faster lit or unlit? Does the flame produce any kind of pressure change that affects the flow rate through the nozzle? Are any other measurable phenomenon at work?

Charger doesn’t stay put in cigarette lighter outlet

The cigarette lighter outlet was never designed to be an electrical outlet the way it’s commonly used today. Even so, I’ve yet to find a plug for charging USB devices that fits and doesn’t fall out.

All plugs I know have some little metal nub in the center that practically never gets enough contact with the socket’s center base, and the sides of the plug are never effective at keeping the plug pressed in well enough.

How can I make the plug stay in place? How can I easily modify the socket to make it work?

My car’s socket is vertical (pointing straight up). I don’t want to dismantle my car, although it would be cool to have a USB socket in the console! This must be a common problem; how do people solve it?
