A verb for “high standard of living” or ” high quality of life”

I would like to write a sentence similar as follows but after a Google search, I noticed using the verb to reach could make the sentence sound unnatural. So which verbs can I use instead of the verb to reach?

It took centuries to reach to high standard of living we have today.

It took centuries to reach to high (level) quality of life we have
today.

Guitar Fetish Pickups – Can anyone describe their tone and quality?

OK. I have seen Guitar Fetish pickups at prices that seem insane compared to what most pickups cost – and they have things like humbucker sized P90s that are hard to find in any case. Their stuff looks great and they actually seem to know what they’re talking about.

But I’ve never heard one. I don’t have any friends who’ve taken the plunge and bought one. I’m reluctant to take a risk on any of these without a real human being reporting on it.

  • Based on your experience, are these pickups well-built, or are they noisy pickups that won’t last?

  • How do they compare to, say, units built by Gibson or Seymour Duncan?

  • Can anyone describe the kind of tone they get, compared to other pickups?

Is there a way to determine the quality of an impulse-response relationship?

I’m new to system ID so be gentle.

I have a modeled signal of streamflow that I would like to map to an observed signal of stream height. This lends itself nicely to a simple impulse-response kind of relationship.

Problem is that the streamflow is modeled. So sometimes the magnitude of the impulse does not really match the magnitude of the response (e.g. big impulse, small response followed by small impulse, big response later in the time series). Even worse, sometimes I have false positives (modeled impulse, no response) and false negatives (no impulse, but there is a response). I have hundreds of sites I’m working with, and it’s tedious to go through each one by hand and eyeball whether there’s a good input-output relationship.

So my question is: Is there a way to compare the impulse signal to the response signal to determine the “quality” of the relationship? That way I can start working with the “good” sites, and also try to characterize what makes a site good vs bad based on other factors. Is cross-correlation the way to look at it? Or is there a better way to look at this?

Do you lose quality converting from a lossy audio format to a lossless format?

I know that you lose quality going to a lossy format.

Examples:
flac > mp3
ogg > mp3

But do you lose quality going from it?

Example:
mp3 > flac

Bonus question: What about images?

Example:
jpg > png

Asset quality reduction on mobile debug

I’ve an image with a nice resolution (588 x 316), which is imported into the project using Drag & Drop into the assets box. The inspector says it’s compressed using ETC2 8b.

Problem

Using this image as an sprite into my game, it appears to be (at least) correct inside the game window, but at the same time in my android device (1920×1080, game in portrait mode) it looks terrible.

After a bit of research, I’ve tried with what this post suggested (for a different problem) to change the filter mode to solve this kind of issues, but the result haven’t changed for me.

Here you have some snapshots of both the Unity IDE and my phone so you can see what’s happening:

Any idea about why is it happening or how to solve it?

Quality loss in black&white conversion

First of all, I hoped I’m not asking a duplicate of some question (I didn’t find any).

I’m currently editing a short-movie, and the main part of it is black and white. We recorded it in colors, so I’m using the video sequence editor to go in black and white for these sequences. My problem comes here (I’m setting the saturation of each strips to 0, but I tried other ways like using a Hue correction Modifier, same result).

Then in a scene, we used a old-look iris effect (darkening borders of the video). I tried different ways but all with the same ugly result : use a transparent png image, use a mask, …). Here is the actual mask I’m using :

enter image description here

I can’t see how to get it more simple than that. Then here is a zoom on a corner when I render a frame to a png image :

enter image description here

It looks normal, isn’t it ? Let’s see how it looks when I render the video in a .mp4 file :

enter image description here

It’s a bit subtle, but I assure you it’s reeeeeeally ugly. It looks like now Blender has only 10 choices of gray for that gradient. Shouldn’t it have thousands or millions of colors available ? Finally, here is my configuration :

enter image description here

I want to underline the fact that I used the VSE for almost 10 short movies now, and the encoding has always been perfect. I always used H264 in mp4 container, and it looks great (lossless, any encoding speed). But that’s the first time we are doing some part of a movie in black and white, and I’m really upset about this result.

Have you any guess why it’s sooo ugly when rendered in a video ? What causes the loss of quality ? I have other small quality problems about black and white, but this one is really bothering me …

Feel free to ask any additionnal informations ! And thanks a lot to have taken the time to read me !

NB : Our camera is a Sony A6000 (hybrid camera) and works perfectly.

What happened to the quality filter? [closed]

Look at my reputation graph. Look at the very beginning where I got more than 1500 reputation in less than a month of being here. I have just barely passed the 3000 mark after 3 months of trying. Why? The quality of questions here.

Recently, the Close Votes queue is always about 50k. Even if they only last a few days, that is still way too much! I have seen questions that are in all lowercase and have no punctuation!

While using the Close Votes queue, I manage to review 40 questions. Every day I’ve used it, I will close nearly all, with only 1 being left open (2 on a good day).

While I’ve only had the ability to review close votes for 4 days (160 reviews) I’ve had to close a total of more than 150 questions. Excluding duplicates, that is still at least 120 questions!

I love sharing my knowledge with people, but the drop in the quality of posts has made that near impossible. In fact, if you look at my reputation graph, I had spent nearly 3 months gaining 300 reputation to go from 2,700 to 3,000 to gain close vote review privileges!

Can we fix this? Or are you going to downvote someone who just wants the quality of the questions to increase?

Here is an example of a bad question.

I understand votes mean a different thing here, but please reconsider if you downvoted this before this edit was made
