Slow speed file transfer from SSD to external HDD

I have a Ubuntu 14.04 laptop with a SATA SSD drive. I have an 2.5 inch SATA external HDD 1TB which I use as external HDD through a USB(3.0) converter. I want to take a back up of my home folder to this external HDD but the file transfer rate I am getting is just 1 MB/sec to 3 MB/sec.

/home folder is around 27 GB. The transfer rate deteriorates even more as the copy progresses. Is there any way that I can speed this up.

How to transfer potato chips from a bag into a solid container

A way I use to prevent any part of my hands from getting dirty from eating chips is to transfer a bag of chips from the original bag to a long Pringle cylindrical container, then just hold the container and gradually bite off the chips either in 1 full bite if they are small enough or in 2 bites, returning the other uneaten half into the container.

I would usually just cut a small hole from the bag of chips from one of the corner such that it fits the size of the biggest chip I would expect. However due to the clustered nature of chips, my estimation is often bad and hence I have to adjust the hole, and the entire trial and error process of transferring either ends up in a quick mess of some chips missing the opening or takes quite abit of time for a simple task.

Does anyone know of a better way to transfer the chips from a bag to a container? Any other alternative ways of storage can also be suggested if it solves my problem under my situation.

Answers to queries that may arise:

I chose to eat chips using a container as the other ways that I know of from here don’t seem very convenient as I’m always on my computer typing and don’t really want to use another utensil of some sort. My current approach was somewhat inspired from an unaccepted answer from the same page, but wanted a way to keep the chips fresher as the chips are supposed to last me 24 hours rather than a few hours, exposing it to too much air will reduce its crispy texture.

I chose to eat chips from bags instead of the ones that are already available in containers since the brand I like, just happens to be available in my country only in the form of bags, and bags are generally cheaper in terms of net weight per cent.

High Pass Filter Design from Transfer Function [on hold]

I need to design a circuit that implements the following transfer function:

$$G(s)= 4.15timesdfrac{s+530}{s+2200}$$

where, $K = 4.15$, Pole @ 2200 rad/s and Zero @ 530 rad/s.

The bode plot of this transfer function depicts a high pass filter and as such, requires a circuit to be designed to implement it. Any help would be appreciated.

MySQL data transfer to different schema

We have two servers: one for the developer (me) and one for the tester.

While working on the app, I sometimes make little changes in tables’s schemas. (Like a new field, or a field type)

I’m trying to find a way to update the TEST’s schema from the DEV without altering the TEST data.

I tried to dump the DEV structure only, execute it on the TEST db, and then fill it with the TEST data. But the new schema is replaced with the old TEST schema

Do you have a way to do that ?
Or will my tester be forced to fill the database everytime we update?

Thanks…

Why can a domestic wire transfer involve international intermediaries?

I recently made a wire transfer from Fidelity to Wells Fargo. I explicitly used their routing number rather than the SWIFT code. From the posted transactions I see the fund comes from Citibank Europe. And since they charged me $16 I’m sure sure this was an international wire.

How can an international bank get involved in a US domestic wire transfer?
