Troubleshooting google maps history

Google maps history worked perfectly with my old phone.

Now I have a new one and maps history worked for the first few days, then it started to behave randomly: when it works the data is correct, but most of the time it does not track anything.

If I open maps and use the gps it finds my position immediately, but even doing so the tracking is not triggered.

I already tried to deactivate and reactivate it and google play services, as well as clear the cache both for maps and play services.

I checked battery optimization and set maps and google play services to manual mode, setting them in the most active status possible.

It seems that if I restart the phone for a few hours the tracking is correct, then it stops.

I already contacted the phone manufacturer (Huawei) and made all the suggested steps (clear cache) I did not perform the factory reset that they suggested as last resort because the phone has less than 2 weeks.

I think that some battery optimization on the phone (p20 PRO) kills some process needed for maps history, that’s why restarting the phone fixes the problem for a few hours.

Can you suggest me some further troubleshoot step?

I also considered to use tasker to force the execution of some process in order to keep alive the needed services but I would need some advice about what to call to keep alive the history.

Help troubleshooting single phase motor

I have a single phase 230 volt motor. I am getting 230 volts (115 at each terminal marked with the red line in the image below). The motor is not drawing any amperage at all and is making no noise at all. The centrifugal switch looks okay. Can it be the start capacitor? I was under the impression that if the start capacitor was bad it would still pull amperage. What can I test next to help determine why the voltage is not ultimately getting to the the windings?

Troubleshooting a pHAT DAC on Raspberry Pi Zero W

I’m trying to get the pHAT DAC to work with my Raspberry Pi Zero W on running Raspbian Jessie Lite 4.4, but I cannot get it to output any sound.

I followed Pimoroni’s own tutorial and tried both the “Automated setup”:

curl https://get.pimoroni.com/phatdac | bash

and the “Manual set up” so far, without luck.

Running aplay -l, after installing and rebooting, outputs this:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac], device 0: HifiBerry DAC HiFi pcm5102a-hifi-0 []
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

But neither their test sounds, nor trying to play some local .wav files outputs any sound.

Do you have any advice on how to make it work?
Might I have screwed up the soldering?

Suggestion?: Troubleshooting Mouse Input Issues for Win10x64 Chrome on JS app

Here’s where I’m having issues with input.

What I’m experiencing: Mouse input for dragging will not register. My Cintiq Touchscreen WILL interact with it. I’ve verified with other users on other OSs and browsers that this does function correctly.

Current things I’ve tried to troubleshoot:

  • Disable all Chrome extensions
  • Clear cache
  • Reinstall Chrome
    • Purged leftover files from Chrome using Bulk Crap Uninstaller
    • Chrome Canary works, so it’s isolated to my Chrome install
  • Sign into different accounts on Chrome
    • Tried Incognito and Guest as well
  • Turn off my Cintiq Touch
  • Disable AntiMicro, an input remapper
  • Restart computer

Nothing useful is showing up on the console. If there’s a means to see if mouse input is registering, specifically dragging, I’ve not figured out how to do it, yet. I was able to test clicking with:

monitorEvents(window, "click");

–which does register properly in the draggable areas.

I tested another javascript app (and this one) to see if all JS is affected, and that turns out to be false.
My question is:

What else can I do to troubleshoot this problem?

Advice for troubleshooting a (url) preseed file?

I’m working on my first preseed file, and to avoid having to re-burn a DVD every time I make a change, I’m hosting it on a webserver and loading it with preseed/url=...

To load the preseed, I’m booting a virtual machine from an edubuntu 12.04 LTS DVD, selecting the Install Edubuntu option, pressing F6, and replacing the file=... with auto url=...

According to the logs on my webserver, the preseed file is getting downloaded by the installer, but then… as far as I can tell, it isn’t being used. For example, I get prompted to select a language even though d-i debian-installer/locale string en_US is right there at the top of the preseed. I also tried this “100% automated” preseed with the same results.

So, apparently something is going wrong between the installer retrieving my preseed and the contents thereof actually getting used, and I’m at a loss for how to troubleshoot this further.

If I do a Ctrl+Alt+F2 while the installer starts, I can see a bunch of stuff happening, including several “Authentication Failed” messages that may or may not mean anything, but if that output gets saved in any way that lets me do a meaningful examination of it I haven’t found it.

I’m sure I can’t be the first person to have this problem, but I didn’t find much when I searched for “preseed troubleshooting” here or on the Ubuntu forums, so perhaps this would be a good thread to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Troubleshooting a script for my RPI to toggle displays

So I have a Quimat LCD attached to my gpio.

included is a script which runs to switch to the display (LCD35-show), and another to switch back to the HDMI port (LCD-hdmi). This causes a reboot when done so any variable changes have to happen prior to this.

as this is for my mother who is afraid of touching command prompt, I am trying to set up a single icon to use to switch between video sources.

I am a novice at coding, most of my experience from dabbling in BASIC, and have spent a couple days searching and trying to set this up, but apparently am failing at how to search properly as I couldn’t get it functioning.

What I have done so far is this:

Created text file state.txt to hold a variable stating what mode the device is in (HDMI or LCD)

My attempt was to read the variable, then use if then statement to determine which file to run, change the variable then run the file.

This is the code I ended up with.

!/bin/bash
read var < state.txt
if var == HDMI
then
    echo LCD > state.txt
    cd LCD-show/
    sudo ./LCD35-show
else
    echo HDMI > state.txt
        cd LCD-show/
    sudo ./LCD-hdmi
fi

I am hoping someone can show me what I did wrong, and hopefully explain what I missed in the process.

Troubleshooting engine damage after radiator hose failure

My mechanic replaced my radiator hoses. 2 weeks later, one came loose and the engine overheated and died. It was put back on and 2 weeks after that, the hose began to leak. I brought it back and both hoses were replaced, said to be faulty. An external compression test was performed but not internal compression test. What does that mean and should I take the car to another mechanic for further testing or monitor the car for a while first? It seems to rev higher upon acceleration, to 3RPMs but I have not had the car back for more than a day.
