Reasons for being vegetarian or vegan other than ethical reasons?

I met a lot of people that, even though they have strong reasons for being vegan or vegetarian, or even work saving or helping animals, etc. have failed to follow their principles and ended up including meat again.

Almost every vegetarian or vegan person I get to know has moved to vegetarianism for the same reasons I did (I’m moving in as well):

  • Ethical reasons (i.e., not eating other animals)
  • Trying to stop animal suffering (defending animals rights).

But, are there reasons besides the ones listed above?

I’m not saying they’re not great reasons, which I think they are, just trying to find out all other reasons.

What are the main vegan or vegetarian organizations in Latin America?

Yep, simple and straight-forward: Which are the main veg*n organizations, collectives, etc. in Latin America? In which countries does each organization work?

Answer to the comments. Since Riker asks for the meaning of “main” word I suggest to mean it as in the common language; so this would mean “more popular, bigger, most known, most active organizations, etc.” Additionally a look on the definition could be useful: “chief in size, extent, or importance; principal; leading.

What American civil war era recipes are vegetarian/vegan?

The only vegetarian dish I know of (and this may be a stretch) is potato dumplings, I modified this recipe into potato and carrot dumplings on food.com/genius kitchen.

The original recipe can be found in Civil War Recipes: Receipts from the Pages of Godey’s Lady’s Book.

Is usage of corals vegetarian and/or vegan?

I did a quick google on the topic and the only sensible thing was this Yahoo answer. However, I wanted to check here as well.

Also, according to Wikipedia corals are animals (marine invertebrates) but according to the Yahoo answer corals are skeletal remains of marine organisms, which way it is? If the latter, then presumably it would be fine for vegans to use, as it does not harm or exploit the organism that produced it, right?

Why can’t the Dalai Lama be a vegetarian?

In this answer to ‘Are all Buddhists vegetarian?’ the poster says

[the Dalai Lama] has a medical condition that disallows
him to be a strict vegetarian.

I’ve heard this before and never questioned it. But thinking about it – what kind of medical condition would preclude the Dalai Lama from being a vegetarian. Suddenly I feel very skeptical that there is any such condition. Is that unfair?

Question: How or to stop being vegetarian.?

Question: How or to stop being vegetarian.?

Question: How or to stop being vegetarian.?

To start off my dad turned vegetarian when I was about 2 followed by me deciding to turn vegetarian when I when I was 9 for moral reasons for example I thought cows were cute an all. Then my younger brother and mom followed and we are all vegetarian. But we do eat fish so I guess we are Pescetarian . back to the main point I’m now 14 turning 15 and I play high level sport i’m 5 foot 10 inches and weigh around 135 pounds. I have always been a skinny kid and my dad always telling me I need to put on more mass because i play high level sport and the strength could help which i agree with but no matter how much pasta beans and fish and protein shakes I eat I can barely gain weight or muscle. Also i’ve started to miss the taste of meat and the limited eating choices are starting to get annoying. Also I feel that going back to eating meat will make weight gain alot easier. BUT but the problem is it feels wrong as i will be the only person in the family that eats meat it would be like turning atheist with a really religious parents. Also my brother really likes animals and my dad is almost disgusted by even the smell of meat. help please opionions from ex veganswould be more helpful i guess thanks alot.
